Helping Yourself Can Also Help Others
Self+Supplements was started for the millions of men and women who take care of others on a daily basis, often-times at the expense of their own health and well-being. Parents, teachers, caretakers and service-providers deserve a little help to stay strong and be well themselves. But, in the shadows of our streets, there is another group that is largely ignored: youths escaping homelessness and poor nutrition.
"We're not just another supplement brand. The brand is an extension of ourselves and our communities- so we have a responsibility to serve both. We donate 5% of all @selfsupplements sales to Covenant House, because we need to be part of the solution through our time, money and building awareness. The proof that our contributions matter are in the smiles."- Martin Floreani Self+Ceo"
Self+supplements set out to help improve people's wellness, which starts with one's health- particularly a healthy immunity. Health has a long and broad effect on people's lives beyond how they feel in the moment. For example, a healthy child is more likely to learn better at school. A healthy adult is more likely to miss less days at work, and perhaps earn a better living and a more fulfilling work-life balance. Health isn't the only factor that matters, but it's certainly a big one. However, for all too many, access to quality healthcare and nutrition is still a distant promise. This is particularly true for the 550,000 to 2.2 million homeless in the USA.* Men, women, children, families and veterans that feel destitute, abandoned and forgotten.
The realities of homelessness are all too real, and Covid-19 has made it worst driven by higher unemployment and rising housing costs, among other things. It's like a pandemic within a pandemic.
The homeless eat less frequent meals that are often inadequate from a dietary and nutritional standpoint compared to housed individuals. Many lack appropriate health care while suffering nutrition-related health problems including alcoholism and anemia. The lack of access to nutritious foods, kitchens, storage, and refrigeration are just some of the issues they face on a daily basis.
Our supplements are primarily designed to help people support their immunity, and aiding with some very important daily needs such as having more energy, improving overall cognitive health, or simply unwinding from a stressful day. We know that, while our products are great for working men and women, they can also be critically important, or maybe even life-changing for someone suffering from nutritional deficiencies on a daily basis, which is why we decided to support Covenant House in our hometown state of Georgia. It's a noble and compassionate non-profit 501(c)(3) organization with a strategy that we believe in. Covenant House implements what they call a "Continuum of Care" approach, designed to help youths that are homeless and trafficked at every step of their journey off the streets. And, they offer health and wellness programs for youths to support them them mentally and physically.
We certainly don't have all of the answers, but we want (and need) to be part of the solution. So, today self+supplements donates 5% of sales to make a difference in as many kids lives' as possible.
Homelessness is a complex issue, but ignoring a problem only makes us a part of it. It's a population among us that feels voiceless and forgotten so we feel its our responsibility to help by build awareness of the issue and contributing time, money and products to organizations that are working on the ground to improve people's lives.
